The client requested the design of a modern 2-bedroom double storey house that fit into the neighbourhood. Due to the sites small total area the client requested the structure cover 80% of the site but must embrace the outdoors
and feel connected to the outside world. The first level is designated to entertainment and accommodating guests. With a large open plan kitchen and lounge with a small guest’s toilet the design uses a brutalist approach with
the load bearing structure made of concrete and all detailing and secondary structure of a wood construction along with an abundance of glazed curtainwalls to allow a direct view or the surrounding environment The design approach
started with the need for an open and connected floor plan. The double volume space in the entrance acts as the focal point conveying the message of the open floor plan. The use of a single stringer stair case with no kickplate
also allowed the connection of the upper and lower level to feel free and open. The owners expressed their desire for the structure to be a space for entertainment and a place they can host guests. The large open floor plans
assist to achieve this along with a small patio space connected to the kitchen. The second level starts at a large open landing that can act as an informal family room that feels connected to the space around due to the glazed
railings to the double volume space bellow. Two bedrooms occupy majority of the second level accompanied by a full-sized bathroom and a small balcony that overlooks the outside patio.
