The client brief was direct in terms of styling and requested a modern contemporary structure for a very social family. The space contains 3 bedrooms, formal and informal living spaces, servants’ quarters that is attached to the
kitchen as to accommodate for a live-in helper. My design approach was to create a shared central space that mimics that of a cathedral with high ceilings and windows that draw your attention skywards. With the use of a ledged
overhang around the Circumference of the central structure’s exterior façade. The front façade was intentionally designed to be flat and closed off as to create a feeling of a cave entrance to another world of gods drawing
attention upwards. The entire length of the rear wall holds folding glass doors to connect each central interior space to a connected exterior patio space that is partially covered. In addition, the interior floor plan hosts
a split level for the lounge and bedrooms that is higher than that of the rest of the house this trend is followed to the outdoor patio where the main patio section is separated from the patio level that accompanies the bedroom
level. The large patio will host and outdoor kitchen attached to the main kitchen via folding glazed panels. The outdoor spaces focal point would be a sunken hot tub and adjoining swimming pool.
